Best trade in Miami Dolphins history: Acquiring Larry Little

The Miami Dolphins pulled off one of the most lopsided trades in NFL history.

Not pleased with the production former defensive back Mack Lamb was providing, the Dolphins elected to ship him away for guard Larry Little. The moment Lamb was traded, he never actually played in the NFL again. For Little, on the other hand, he went on to wreck the league.

For years Little opened up crater-sized holes for the running game while also keeping his quarterbacks upright. Little was about as dominant as you could get at the position. He was a major piece to a team that won back-to-back Super Bowls in the mid-1970s.

Little’s great play was rewarded often during his career. He also was a five-time Pro Bowler, five-time First-Team All-Pro, two-time All-Pro and ultimately, a Hall of Famer.

As if all of the accolades weren’t enough, Little was named to the NFL’s 1970s All-Decade team. He also proved that he could teach the game at a high level as he was named the MEAC Coach of the Year in 1984.

The Dolphins got one of the best players in their franchise history for a marginal contributor who didn’t play for the team they traded him to. All in all, it was an unbelievable win for them.
