Best trade in Minnesota Vikings history: Acquiring Warren Moon

Warren Moon was thought to be on his last legs. In 1992 on the Houston Oilers, Moon threw for a paltry 2,521 yards to go along with 18 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He bounced back the following with 3,485 yards but he didn’t appear to be the same player he once was.

The all-timer was subsequently sent to the Minnesota Vikings for two fourth-round picks. He may have been 38 but Moon sure didn’t play like one.

The Vikings new signal-caller aired things out to the tune of 4,264 yards and 18 touchdowns. The interceptions were a hard pill to swallow as he threw 19 of them. One year later, Moon took things to another level. The yards were roughly the same with 4,228 but his touchdown to interception ratio greatly improved, throwing for 33 scores against only 14 picks. The numbers were impressive but team success didn’t follow as they finished 8-8 that year.

Moon still managed to bring relevancy to a middling franchise all while playing some of the best ball of his career. It also doesn’t hurt that Moon was named to two Pro Bowls during his time there and constantly filled the stadium with fans dying to get a glimpse of great quarterback play, something Viking supporters aren’t used to.
