Dallas Cowboys land elite cornerback in 7-round mock draft
By Randy Gurzi
The Dallas Cowboys need help in the secondary and they land that with Patrick Surtain in the first round of this seven-round 2021 NFL Mock Draft
For the second season in a row, the Dallas Cowboys have been undergoing some big changes. While they haven’t had to change out their head coach this offseason, they are going from Mike Nolan to Dan Quinn as defensive coordinator.
And with Quinn in charge, they seem to finally understand that safeties matter. Quinn convinced the stubborn Dallas front office to sign both Keanu Neal and Damontae Kazee in free agency, both formerly from Atlanta.
Neal is expected to play a bit of a hybrid role between linebacker and strong safety but Kazee should finally give them a deep safety who actually takes the ball away.
This doesn’t mean their defense is set, as there are still many holes to fill. The biggest of that being at cornerback, which they fill at No. 10 overall in this 2021 NFL Mock Draft.
Dallas Cowboys pick No. 10 overall: Patrick Surtain, CB, Alabama
There’s no denying that cornerback is the biggest need in Dallas and they land the top prospect in the class here in Patrick Surtain II. The son of a former Pro Bowl defensive back, Surtain is everything you want in a defensive back.
He’s tall, physical, and fast. He also has a great rapport with Trevon Diggs, who was his former teammate at Alabama. Putting the two in the same defenisve backfield in the NFL would give the Cowboys a much better chance at slowing down the pass than they ever had in 2020.
Surtain will make an immediate impact as the most pro-ready cornerback in the class.
