Dallas Cowboys land elite cornerback in 7-round mock draft

Dallas Cowboys pick No. 180 overall (comp pick): Khyiris Tonga, NT, BYU
Back-to-back picks for defensive tackles here as the Dallas Cowboys follow up the Jalen Twyman selection with Khyiris Tonga from BYU. They may both technically be listed as defensive tackles, but the two have very different roles.
While Twyman is more of an athletic interior defender, Tonga is a massive space-eater. A run-defender who won’t likely offer much at all on third-downs, Tonga is listed at 6-foot-4 and 322-pounds.
He’s hard to block one-on-one and is the kind of player who will do the dirty work that doesn’t show up on the stat sheets.
Dallas Cowboys pick No. 193 overall: Khalil Herbert, RB, Virginia Tech
Ezekiel Elliott still isn’t going anywhere, even if some fans are ready to give up on him. There’s also Tony Pollard who was much better in 2020 with an expanded role and should continue to thrive the more touches he gets.
With the No. 1 and No. 2 running backs settled, Dallas won’t be in the market for a running back early but if a talented player falls to them during Day 3 of the draft, don’t be shocked to see them pull the trigger.
That’s what happens here as Khalil Herbert from Virginia Tech is still on the board in the sixth round. He’s on the shorter side at 5-foot-9 but is stocky at 209-pounds. He’s patient and has good vision and while he may never be a top running back in the NFL, he would be great in a committee and could be called upon in a pinch for Dallas.
