Dallas Cowboys land elite cornerback in 7-round mock draft

Dallas Cowboys pick No. 228 overall (comp pick): Jaelon Darden, WR, North Texas
Jaelon Darden is an interesting player who has lined up all over the field for North Texas. He stays in the same state in this mock draft and while it may feel superfluous for them to draft a receiver at all, Darden is a player who would be hard to pass on this late.
In 2020, Darden had 1,190 yards and 19 touchdowns as a receiver, turning in his best year as a collegiate player. In addition to his role as a wideout, he’s capable of moving the ball as a return man — scoring a touchdown as a freshman on a punt return even.
Kellen Moore has proven in two seasons that he can get creative with his offense and a player such as Darden will only help him expand the playbook.
Dallas Cowboys pick No. 239 overall: Shaun Beyer, TE, Iowa
Recently, Dallas landed Jeremy Sprinkle which gives them three talented tight ends to turn to. Both Blake Jarwin and Dalton Schultz proved they can get it done in the passing game, especially Schultz who had a breakout season in 2020 after Jarwin was injured.
They should still utilize Jarwin as the No. 1 tight end with Schultz as his primary backup, but Sprinkle has a lot of experience in the NFL and will also see time as a blocker — which is his specialty.
Still, Dallas adds another tight end as they use their final pick on Iowa’s Shaun Beyer. An in-line tight end, Beyer is purely a developmental player who they will be trying to groom for down the road.
