NFL Draft: Re-grading every first round pick from the 2018 NFL Draft
NFL Draft: Re-grading every first round pick from the 2018 NFL Draft: Number 10 overall, QB Josh Rosen
Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Coming out of UCLA, Rosen was amongst the best in his class. He routinely lit up defenses in college as he scored nearly every time he had the ball. In his final year, he threw for 3,756 yards and 26 touchdowns and some legitimate buzz surrounding him being the number one overall pick began popping up.
Despite that, the Cardinals picked him up at number ten and it’s been a disaster for him ever since.
The accuracy he displayed in college abandoned him in the pro game. Even with 13 starts in 14 games, Rosen was awful. He threw for 2,278 passing yards on a 55.2 completion percentage to go along with just 11 touchdowns and a ridiculous 14 interceptions. Once the Cardinals received the chance to draft Kyler Murray with the number one overall pick the following year, they quickly dumped Rosen off in the laps of the Miami Dolphins. He was given six games and three starts before they realized he wasn’t what they were expecting.
Usually in the NFL, a trade partner can be found for a young quarterback. In the case of Rosen, no one wanted him and the Dolphins were forced to cut him. He managed to snag a spot on the practice squad of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before the San Francisco 49ers took a chance on him.
Rosen’s time in the league appears to be coming to an end. He hasn’t played in an official game in any of his last two stops, and with the influx of talent that makes its way through the league every year, it’s seemingly only a matter of time before he’s exiled altogether.
