NFL Draft: Re-grading every first round pick from the 2018 NFL Draft: Number 28 overall, CB Terrell Edmund
The numbers appeared to be just fine for Terrell Edmund. In fact, they looked downright impressive. His first year under the bright lights saw him defend four passes and rack up 78 total tackles. Yet, the game is played on the field, not on paper.
Edmund just looked a step slow on the field. When he would get caught in coverage, quarterbacks oftentimes made him pay. He’s gotten better over the past two years, however, although his counting numbers don’t exactly show it. For example, let’s compare his numbers outright from 2019 to this past year in 2020. Previously, Edmund recorded more tackles (105) compared to this season’s total (68). He also scored more tackles for loss and QB hits.
With that said, Edmund was a much better player this past season. For starters, Edmund was enormously better when he was in coverage. In 2019, opposing QBs lit him up for a passer rating of 120.8 when he was the primary defender. This past season, that number plummeted to 76.2. He also racked up two interceptions after not recording any the year prior.
With Edmund taking a nice leap forward each year, it’s only right that we give him a good grade reflecting his hard work.
