NFL Draft: Re-grading every first round pick from the 2018 NFL Draft
NFL Draft: Re-grading every first round pick from the 2018 NFL Draft: Number 7 overall, QB Josh Allen
If our grades came out after year two as opposed to year three, Josh Allen’s grade would have been completely different. The former Wyoming quarterback looked like a dear in headlights at times during his first two years in the league.
After throwing more interceptions (12) than touchdowns (10) in year one, Allen’s future outlook in the league seemed to signal career backup. He turned things around in year two, throwing 20 TDs and nine interceptions with over 3,000 yards.
Good? Yes. A franchise quarterback? Doubtful.
This past year, however, Allen went from borderline starter to bonafide MVP candidate. In fact, he finished second in voting to Aaron Rodgers. He threw for 37 scores and only 10 interceptions. Allen also managed to lead the Buffalo Bills to a 13-3 record and appears to be ready to lead that bottom-feeding franchise to real success. If it wasn’t for Patrick Mahomes and his Kansas City Chiefs, Allen’s Bills would’ve made it all the way to the Super Bowl this past year.
To no one’s surprise, Allen was named to his first Pro Bowl. The sort of year Allen just put together doesn’t appear to be a fluke but we can’t give him an A+ when considering his past subpar years. With that said, we’ll still pencil him in for a high mark.
