2021 NFL Mock Draft: Cowboys fix defense, Justin Fields slides to Broncos

31. Kansas City Chiefs: Samuel Cosmi, OT, Texas
The Kansas City Chiefs fell short of their ultimate goal, which was to defend their Super Bowl title from a season ago. Their defeat at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had to be discouraging for them but the truth is, they’re still a team that’s loaded with talent but they just ran into a squad that had everything going their way.
Not only was Tampa Bay playing lights out, but they were also at home in the Super Bowl. While many made a big deal out of them being the first true home team in the playoffs, the Chiefs were the first team with a legit road team disadvantage in the championship game.
Fast-forward to the offseason and the Chiefs are trying to get themselves back on track. They had to say goodbye to Sammy Watkins — although his signing never really produced the numbers they wanted — and also moved on from some of their offensive linemen. They did add Joe Thuney and convinced Kyle Long to in-retire, but the Chiefs need to get better at tackle.
For that reason, they take Samuel Cosmi out of Texas at No. 31. At 6-foot-6 and 314-pounds, Cosmi comes in with an NFL body and has three years of starting experience for the Longhorns. It’s been a while since Texas has had an offensive lineman taken in the first round and while he’s on the fringe of making the cut, he should be a long-term starter at the next level.
