2021 NFL Mock Draft: Cowboys fix defense, Justin Fields slides to Broncos

6. Miami Dolphins (via Philadelphia Eagles): Devonta Smith, WR, Alabama
Had the Miami Dolphins stayed at No. 3, they likely would have taken Ja’Marr Chase from LSU. There’s no denying that he would have been a great addition, but the drop off between him and DeVonta Smith isn’t great — and is well worth the extra picks they got in order to move around.
Smith was considered a solid receiver entering this campaign after going for 1,256 yards and 14 touchdowns on 68 receptions. That season, he proved to be able to work well with both Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones. But in 2020, with Jones under center and Jaylen Waddle hurt for much of the season, Smith really took off.
The senior wideout ended up winning the Heisman Trophy after catching 117 passes for 1,856 yards and an insane 23 touchdowns. He was the offensive focal point of the best team in the nation and would be reunited with his former quarterback, Tagovailoa, in Miami. Such a pick would be huge for Miami who would go from questionable pass-catchers to a team that has Smith, DeVante Parker, Will Fuller, and Mike Gesicki.
Whether or not Tua is the answer is still undecided, but we do know that would be more than enough weapons to accurately judge what he brings to the table.
