Denver Broncos trade up for Trey Lance in 7-round mock draft
By Lucas Schuh
Denver cut fan-favorite Phillip Lindsay this offseason but brought in Mike Boone in free agency. But Melvin Gordon remains the obvious starter. Javian Hawkins, however, is a player whose potential is too great and obvious for the Broncos to look past.
Hawkins is a first-round pick for the fun-to-watch team in the 2021 NFL Draft. He’s quick and near-impossible to get a hold of with his top-tier elusiveness. He’s also an asset in the passing game and can get loose in the open field. However, he lacks legitimate NFL size, so he must avoid contact or he’s going down.
If the Louisville product can bulk up a bit, his game-breaking ability should be a great thing for the Broncos to have in the holster moving forward.
Other Players Considered: D.J. Daniel, Darren Hall, Riley Cole
Defensive tackle might be the strongest position group on the Broncos entire roster. Shelby Harris, Dre’Mont Jones, Mike Purcell and DeShawn Williams are all quality assets for Denver, even if they aren’t name-brand players. But the franchise could definitely still add to that group.
Isaiahh Loudermilk is a long human being. Loudermilk stands at 6-7, which allows him to get his hands into offensive linemen quickly and makes it hard for them to get their hands on him in general. As a player right now, he is a solid run defender and not much else. If Denver is willing to give Loudermilk some time to develop, then he may become a decent starter/good role player.
