NFL Draft: Greatest pick from each franchise’s history: Denver Broncos, DE Von Miller

Pick: 2011 NFL Draft, 1st round number 2 overall

Stats:

  • 106 sacks
  • 490 total tackles

Awards:

  • 8 time Pro Bowler
  • 1 time Defensive Player of the Year
  • Former Super Bowl Champ
  • 1 Super Bowl MVP

A pass rusher was exactly what the Broncos were looking for in the 2011 NFL Draft. They got the man they were craving when they picked up Von Miller with the second overall pick. Since entering the league he’s been terrorizing quarterbacks. 64 combined tackles to go along with 11.5 sacks made Miller the easy choice for the Defensive Rookie of the Year. He was also given a Pro Bowl berth.

Year two was even better as he was named Pro Bowler yet again and made his first All-Pro team. At this point, Miller is seemingly always good for double-digit sacks as long as he’s healthy. His placement as the best draft pick in Broncos history most stems from the work he put in on the biggest stage.

With Hall of Famer Peyton Manning essentially a shell of his former self in 2016, Miller essentially took things into his own hands. He recorded six tackles, 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and was named Super Bowl MVP.

All in all, Miller has been a flat-out monster during his career but his time at the top of the sacks leaderboard might be coming to an end. He racked up only eight sacks in 2019 and missed the entire 2020 campaign due to injury. Even if he falls off his A-game completely, Miller will always be remembered as a great player for roughly a decade.
