NFL Draft: Greatest pick from each franchise’s history: New England Patriots, QB Tom Brady

  • 14 time Pro Bowler
  • 3 time regular season MVP
  • 7 time Super Bowl Champion
  • 5 time Super Bowl MVP

This one was by far the easiest selection of them all. Tom Brady isn’t just the greatest draft pick in New England Patriots history but he’s widely considered the best of all time.

By now, we’ve all seen it. A shirtless Tom Brady, bereft of any sort of muscle tone standing in the 2000 NFL combine attempting to impress teams and give them a reason to take a chance on him. None of them were convinced as he tumbled all the way to the sixth round and the 199 overall pick. After bypassing him several times over, the Patriots figured it couldn’t hurt to bring him on board. From there, that’s where the magic started.

Once Brady got his chance to play due to an injury to starter Drew Bledsoe, it was all she wrote for the rest of the league. It’s nearly impossible to list all of his accomplishments but we’ll try (takes deep breath). Brady has made 14 Pro Bowls, took home three regular-season MVPs, made nine Super Bowl appearances – winning six of them and continually torched the league more times than we can count.

Even now, after being thrown out the door by head coach Bill Belichick, Brady continues to win. He officially answered the one question that was lingering over his career. “Was it Tom or Belichick?” After taking home his seventh Super Bowl and fifth Super Bowl MVP, he definitively answered that question with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

There’s no need to fulminate over this one, Tom Brady is the clear-cut choice here.
