Packers Day 2 WR target No. 2: Amon-Ra St. Brown, USC

Whenever you’re looking at Pac-12 players in the 2021 NFL Draft process, you have to almost throw out their stats from the 2020 season. With how truncated the year was for the conference and the fact that a team like USC played only six games, the fact that Amon-Ra St. Brown had only 41 receptions for 478 yards and seven touchdowns is actually impressive even if the final statistics look as if they are a pedestrian at best.

There’s nothing in particular that strikes you about St. Brown physically. He’s only 5-11.5 and 197 pounds and he ran only a 4.59-second 40-yard dash. This isn’t a player who is going to blow the lid off of an opposing defense with any kind of consistency, nor is he a player who you can just throw it up to and let him go up above his matchup and get the ball. Yet, he’s a Day 2 pick because he’s still effective.

St. Brown is quite crafty and, even if his weight isn’t eye-popping, he plays exceptionally strong. Cornerbacks often struggle to compete with him in 50-50 situations just because he plays like he wants the ball more than his opponent. So while he may not offer the downfield element that the Pack would certainly like, his presence would still be immensely valuable as a reliable and competitive weapon in the passing offense.
