Joe Tryon. player. Scouting Report. EDGE, Washington. Pick 31. 26. Pick Analysis. 1

Over the past few years, the Baltimore edge-rusher group has become increasingly depleted. They lost Za’Darius Smith in 2019 free agency and, after tagging him 2020, Matthew Judon departed this offseason. While they still have veteran Pernell McPhee and a solid player in Tyus Bowser, this position group should be an obvious focus in the 2021 NFL Draft for the franchise.

While there is no consensus about the EDGE class in this year’s draft and there is certainly no top-tier prospect, there are a ton of high-upside players who teams should be intrigued by at the end of the first round and in the second round as well. And one of the most enticing assets of the bunch is Washington product Joe Tryon.

Measuring in at 6-4, 251 pounds, Tryon moves like a player who is much smaller, which is an asset for him as a pass-rusher. Not only does he display impressive explosiveness off the edge with the ability to get off the line and push into the pocket, but he’s also shown his ability to bend effectively and has developed his pass-rushing moves a bit.

Tryon’s combination of size and athleticism make him a perfect match with a team like Baltimore. This defense has long valued versatility and the implied ability to deploy players off the edge in a variety of ways. Tryon fits that bill perfectly and, with some more technical coaching at the NFL level, he could be a star for the Ravens defense.
