2. New York Jets trade up for a wide receiver

There’s no doubt the New York Jets are taking a quarterback at No. 2 overall. Zach Wilson is inked in as the future of the franchise on most, if not all mocks. Rookie general manager Joe Douglas and head coach, Robert Saleh both know how important is to build around a young quarterback. They’ll throw Wilson into the fire and they must surround him with weapons.

Corey Davis was a solid pickup, but he was a one-year-wonder. Denzel Mims is a speed demon. However, he and Josh Doctson still need to develop, if the latter still has any life left. With four picks inside the top 100, an NFL Draft trade that makes sense for the Jets is trading up for a wide receiver.

One may argue that the depth of this draft doesn’t warrant a trade-up. But, if there is a run on other positions that causes a top wideout to fall — they must trade up. DeVonta Smith is an elite route runner with excellent hands who’ll give Wilson a reliable target. His sleight frame could see him fall, if he does get past 12, the Jets must trade up for him.

They’ll likely have to trade the No. 34 pick to do so, but it’s worth it. Wilson to Smith for the next 10-years is a real possibility for the Jets. If they don’t trade up for wide receiver, they should for corner because they’ll miss out on a No. 1 corner if they don’t.
