3-Round 2021 NFL Mock Draft: Broncos, Bears trade up for quarterbacks
By Randy Gurzi
10. Chicago Bears (via Dallas Cowboys): Trey Lance, QB, North Dakota State
Trade: Dallas Cowboys send pick No. 10 to the Chicago Bears for Pick No. 20 (Round 1), Pick No. 52 (Round 2), and a 2022 Second-Round Pick
The Dallas Cowboys are on the clock at No. 10 but they get an offer from the Chicago Bears that they can’t pass on. Chicago, who signed Andy Dalton after he was the starter for much of the year in 2020 for Dallas, still needs a long-term answer under center. And with Trey Lance there for the taking, they give Dallas a couple of picks in order to move up 10 spots.
Dallas could be criticized some for taking just a second-round pick in this draft as they could have probably held out for a first, but the second in 2022 really seals it for them. They can still land a defensive playmaker at 20 and could also end up with another two starters with the Bears additional picks.
For Chicago, landing Lance feels like one of the few ways they can enter this season and not feel as though they took a step backward. Yes, they had to move on from Mitch Trubisky, but Dalton isn’t the answer. He could fill in until Lance is ready, but fans were ready to revolt when they made the signing. Perhaps this will restore some faith in their front office.
