3-Round 2021 NFL Mock Draft: Broncos, Bears trade up for quarterbacks
By Randy Gurzi
13. Los Angeles Chargers: Christian Darrisaw, OT, Virginia Tech
Next up is the Los Angeles Chargers who also can go several ways with their pick. In 2020, they landed Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert who set the record for the most touchdown passes by a rookie with 31. He won the 2020 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award and it wasn’t even close.
It’s impressive that they have gone from one franchise quarterback to another as they moved on from Drew Brees to roll with Philip Rivers back in 2006 and now, they let Rivers walk and end up with Herbert the very next season. Now, they could look to reload talent around Herbert but there’s a clear spot they need to address first — the offensive line.
Los Angeles has some talented weapons in the passing game but their line is a bit of an issue especially after having some departures in free agency in recent seasons. For that reason, they take Virginia Tech’s Christian Darrisaw at No. 13.
The former Hokies offensive lineman can play either tackle position and could end up being the franchise left tackle — which every team needs to land after getting their quarterback situation figured out. They might not be ready to contend with the Chiefs in their division just yet, but this move puts them on the right path.
