3-Round 2021 NFL Mock Draft: Broncos, Bears trade up for quarterbacks
By Randy Gurzi
19. Washington Football Team: Greg Newsome II, CB, Northwestern
Earlier this week, the Washington Football Team saw one of their more popular players in recent memory retire. Alex Smith hung up the cleats and even though he was already released by the team, there was an outpouring of support for what he accomplished by coming back from a devastating (and life-threatening) leg injury.
Washington had already signed Ryan Fitzpatrick to take over as they look to defend their NFC East title. It won’t be easy but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible — and if we are being honest, Fitzpatrick seems like the kind of player who could wow us one more time in his career.
Still, if they want to stay on top of their division, the Football Team needs to continue to stock the shelves, so to speak. With the No. 19 pick in this draft, they decide to do so by landing a cornerback in Greg Newsome II.
The Northwestern product offers up a great mix of size and speed and has climbed into the discussion of being a first-round pick. There have been some small injury concerns with him as he has missed games here and there but as long as no team is scared off, he should be able to come in as a day one pick and make an instant impact.
