3-Round 2021 NFL Mock Draft: Broncos, Bears trade up for quarterbacks
By Randy Gurzi
21. Indianapolis Colts: Teven Jenkins, OT, Oklahoma State
After winning 11 games with Philip Rivers under center, the Indianapolis Colts found themselves in a tricky spot. Rivers decided to retire following his lone season in Indy and his backup, Jacoby Brissett, also left the team as he signed with the Miami Dolphins.
This left them with only Jacob Eason on the roster and while the Washington (and Georgia) product has some upside, he’s not exactly ready to take over a franchise. But then, the Colts made a move for a player who their head coach knows well.
Carson Wentz was added in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles and while things ended poorly, Wentz did have some success. The best example of this was in 2017 when he was on the path to an MVP season before tearing his ACL. That same year, he was working under offensive coordinator Frank Reich, who is now the coach in Indy.
The hope is that Reich can get Wentz to turn back the clock but they know he needs help. One way to give him that help is to build up their offensive line, which they do with the selection of Teven Jenkins from Oklahoma State. Jenkins is a player who should be able to start right away and the Colts need that after Anthony Castonzo decided to retire following the 2020 season as well.
