3-Round 2021 NFL Mock Draft: Broncos, Bears trade up for quarterbacks

25. Jacksonville Jaguars (via Los Angeles Rams): Trevon Moehrig, S, TCU
With their second pick in this opening round, the Jacksonville Jaguars decide to improve their defense with the selection of Trevon Moehrig from TCU. There’s not much faith in the depth of this safety class but one player seems capable of crashing the party on Thursday night, and that would be Moehrig.
Lance Zierlein of NFL.com says that Moehrig was better in 2019 than he was in 2020 but still is very high on the TCU safety, saying he can play in a variety of coverages.
"“Very talented height-weight-speed prospect with the range and ball skills to become an impact defender at the next level. Moehrig possesses the overall talent to play in a variety of coverages, including over the slot against big targets, but his talent might be best served as a high safety where his instincts and anticipation lead him to the football. He’s a talented ball tracker with soft hands and does a very good job of maintaining balance and positioning to make a play. While he can strike like a pro, he’s not always a knock-back tackler and his inconsistent angles to ball-carriers present a bit of a concern as a last line of defense” — Zierlein, NFL.com"
Jacksonville could use more help on offense as well, but they still have an early pick in the second round to go that route. Adding Moehrig not only gives them their best value at this spot, but it really improves their secondary which is quite a need in itself.
