Alabama. DeVonta Smith. 7. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 50. WR

7. Detroit Lions: Devonta Smith, WR, Alabama

With Kyle Pitts going to Miami at No. 6, it leaves the Detroit Lions with a tough decision to make. After losing Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones in the offseason, it seems as though wide receiver is the way they have to go. But with Miami electing to go tight end instead of a receiver, it means both DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle are on the clock.

The two Alabama stars are expected to develop into even bigger weapons in the NFL but it varies as to who is expected to go first. Waddle was the more popular pick early in the season but when he got hurt, Smith took off and won the Heisman Trophy.

In the end, the Lions decide to go with the award winner as they take Smith at No. 7. Smith absolutely balled out during his final season with the Tide as he pulled in 117 receptions for 1,856 yards and 23 touchdowns. There are some who have been concerned with his frame (6-foot-1 and 175-pounds) but he played in 13 games in each of the past three seasons and has never had durability concerns.

That being said, the concerns shouldn’t keep him from being taken early and Detroit should end up with a new No. 1 wideout after making this move.
