Green Bay Packers 2021 mock draft: Rounds 2-3

Round 2, Pick 62: Ifeatu Melifonwu, CB, Syracuse

Green Bay’s decision to re-sign Kevin King was a bit perplexing considering that the former second-round pick has been nothing short of lackluster throughout his NFL tenure. But given their cap situation, bringing him back on a modest contract may have been their best option. However, that does necessitate the franchise bringing in a high-end prospect early in the draft, someone like Ifeatu Melifonwu.

The Syracuse product checks the boxes for what the Packers have traditionally liked in their cornerbacks with a 6-2, 212-pound frame. He also is a fine athlete but his best trait is his honed-in physicality when in coverage. He does need to become a more consistent and polished technician in coverage but his film and upside represent a player who could pair with Jaire Alexander as an outside corner duo for the long haul.

Round 3, Pick 92: Stone Forsythe, OT, Florida

Many Packers fans decried the decision to let Bryan Bulaga walk in free agency last offseason, especially when the replacement they signed was veteran Rick Wagner. Those outcries proved pretty correct as Wagner was mediocre at best and then released this offseason. Though Green Bay could shuffle some players on the roster around, they need a replacement at right tackle.

Stone Forsythe may not have the technique right now to be a Day 1 starter but his potential to play and perform well as a rookie is obvious. The Florida product is exceptionally adept in his pass sets, which fits right into the Green Bay offense. He needs to work better to create leverage in the run game with his 6-8 frame but his length and athleticism give him tremendous promise to be a quality player on the right edge of the line.
