NFL Draft: 30 best No. 1 overall picks in league history: number 21, DE Jadeveon Clowney

Stats:

  • 32 sacks
  • 255 combined tackles

Awards:

  • 3 time Pro Bowler

The numbers are meh for defensive end Jadeveon Clowney. At times, he explodes and makes his presence known with a huge hit that turns the tide of the game. But far too often are we left wondering how he was the number one overall pick in 2014.

At this stage in his career, Clowney is known as an elite run stopper. An important asset to have on a team but when it comes to number one overall picks, counting numbers are more or less what fans are accustomed to seeing.

Clowney has yet to register a double-digit sack season but he has anchored several terrific defenses during his brief NFL career. It’s difficult to be entirely disappointed with a player who’s put together three seasons in which he was a Pro Bowler, but Clowney’s potential and what he puts out on the field just simply hasn’t matched up just yet.

Recently, Clowney signed up with the Cleveland Browns and will have fellow number one overall pick, Myles Garrett, assisting him in rushing the QB. This could ultimately prove to be his best year in the NFL yet and he could vault up our list as a result.
