2021 NFL Draft: One perfect prospect for all 32 teams
By Randy Gurzi
Atlanta Falcons: Trey Lance, QB, North Dakota State
Matt Ryan is the king of collecting stats. He has 55,767 yards passing with 347 touchdowns. What he hasn’t been doing much of lately, is winning.
In fact, Ryan has really struggled to find consistent success over the past nine seasons. For example, if you took out their great run in 2016 and 2017 which nearly ended in a Super Bowl win, they have five losing seasons, and one 8-8 campaign.
Now to be fair, not all of this is on Ryan but he does need to be held accountable — and for some reason, no one in Atlanta ever wants to hold him accountable for anything. Even with the blame being passed around to others beyond Ryan, the truth is, he’s about to turn 36 and is 18-29 as the starter over the past three seasons.
This means the Falcons need to start thinking about life after Ryan and since they’re adamant about giving him more time, a player such as Trey Lance makes a lot of sense. A product of North Dakota State, Lance has all the tools to be a star but his experience is incredibly limited.
In Atlanta, he would be a great fit since he would be able to learn from Ryan and perfect his game before taking over full-time. It could be a win-win for the player and the team.
