Chicago Bears: Mac Jones, QB, Alabama

The Chicago Bears have a new QB1. Well, at least they’re touting that they do.

Chicago allowed Mitch Trubisky to leave in free agency as he signed with the Buffalo Bills to be their backup behind Josh Allen. It made sense that they moved on from him since he was still struggling to find his groove but their replacement was a bit confusing.

Their choice in free agency was Andy Dalton who was a long-time starter with the Cincinnati Bengals before spending 2020 with the Dallas Cowboys. Originally signed as a reserve for Dallas, he was thrust into action when Dak Prescott was injured. He had some solid moments but overall struggled to win.

Now with less talent around him in Chicago, they’re expecting him to play even better which isn’t going to happen. Instead, the Bears need to look at possibly trading up and landing a quarterback — and a great fit for them would be Mac Jones from Alabama.

Jones doesn’t exactly wow anyone with his physical gifts but he’s a smart quarterback who won’t have the erratic play they saw out of Trubisky. And if the draft went the way it should, Jones wouldn’t be too hard for them to trade up for.

Having said that, Kyle Shanahan is apparently in love with Jones and could draft him at No. 3. If he does, that could be a huge gamble but if it’s all smokescreen (which would be a weird smokescreen) Jones to Chicago would be a great pairing.
