Chicago Bears 2021 mock draft: Round 2, Pick 61 (via Bills trade)

North Carolina. Dyami Brown. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Wide Receiver. 2. 838

With their first two picks in the draft, the Chicago Bears addressed their offensive line and cornerback spots. Now, with their second pick in the second round, they address their need at wide receiver. They pick up Dyami Brown of North Carolina.

Brown is a game-changing receiver who can break open a game with any touch of the ball. He lacks great game-play speed, but he is quick and athletic. He runs great routes and uses breaks to create separation. His quickness surprises cornerbacks and when he creates separation he makes some big plays downfield.

There is another receiver who was drafted at 61st overall who has similar traits. That receiver was Allen Robinson.

The one difference between Robinson and Brown is their weight. Robinson came out of Penn State weighing 210 pounds while Brown weighs 190 pounds. Once he experiences a professional conditioning program he’ll surely build on his frame.

Despite not having world-class speed, Brown was a big-play receiver for the Tar Heels. Over his last 100 catches, he averaged more than 20 yards per catch. He caught eight touchdown passes of over 40 yards and he averaged a touchdown grab every 5.3 catches.

Once the ball is in the air, Brown does a great job of tracking it and making the catch. He effectively uses the juke to loosen coverage.

One thing the Bears lacked on offense is the big play. Part of the reason for that was the quarterback’s inability to get the ball downfield. They now have Andy Dalton, a quarterback who can make that throw. What he needs now is to have receivers who can make the big plays. Robinson is a quality number one who can make plays underneath. Darnell Mooney and Marquise Goodwin are speedsters who can extend the defense.

Brown doesn’t have those players’ speed, but he is every bit a big-play threat as the others. This pick solidifies the wide receivers corps.
