Chicago Bears wheel and deal in final 7-round mock draft for 2021
Chicago Bears 2021 mock draft: Round 6, Pick 228
The Chicago Bears’ final pick in this mock draft is the final pick in the sixth round. They go with defensive back Israel Mukuamu. Mukuamu gives the Bears some flexibility on defense. They can use him at cornerback or at safety, as well as special teams.
At 6-4, 212 pounds, Mukuamu is a big cornerback who can harass receivers on their routes. He does a good job of hitting the receiver quickly on press coverage and stays on the receiver. Opposing receivers have a difficult time making early releases on their routes. As a corner, he can play the outside or can utilize his size to cover tight ends effectively.
Mukuamu is a hard hitter. He can move back to safety and back up at free safety. With his cornerback skills, he tracks the ball well and can get to it. With his size, he can outjump a lot of receivers. Receivers just have to turn to cornerbacks on 50/50 balls against him as he can use his body to keep the receiver from the ball. He also possesses soft hands so he can snatch the ball and make interceptions.
Mukuamu can diagnose a route quickly and attack. That helps him at both cornerback and safety. He is still pretty raw but new Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Sean Desai was previously a defensive backs coach so he could work with Mukuamu and help him develop. If that happens, the Bears could have a steal with this pick.
