NFL Draft: Re-drafting every first-round pick from 2017 NFL Draft: 11, WR Chris Godwin

Originally selected 84th overall (+73)

The Saints have tried to buffer their defense for years. That’s not to say that it hasn’t worked as they’ve been amongst the league’s best for a number of years now but, simply put, they didn’t go home with the Lombardi trophy as a result.

Offense has never been an issue but for the most part, wide receiver Michael Thomas is the only big-time playmaker they have out there. For as great as he is, the Saints need a bit more variety. They need a player who can take the top off a defense. Look no further than wide receiver Chris Godwin.

Not only is the four-year player great in the open field, but he also doesn’t complain about the number of balls, or lack thereof, that comes in his direction. Godwin is a burner, he set a career-high in 2019 with 1,333 receiving yards. Even with an all-star cast surrounding him this past season, Godwin still managed to put up great numbers with 840 yards to go along with seven touchdowns as probably the fourth option.

For years the Saints have tried to put all of their resources on the defensive side of the ball. It failed. Now, it’s time to go the other way. Give Brees Godwin to pair with Thomas and maybe, just maybe, things will go their way in the playoffs
