NFL Draft: Re-drafting every first-round pick from 2017 NFL Draft: 12, RB Joe Mixon

Originally selected 48th overall (+36)

Much like the Kansas City Chiefs fanbase, Houston Texans supporters aren’t very happy with having to do things over.

In 2017, they were lucky enough to get their hands on quarterback Deshaun Watson. Now that he’s long gone, the Texans have no choice but to go in another direction. For one whole year, fans sat back and groaned as Brock Osweiler received the ball from under center, dropped back, observed the field and then confidently launch the ball into the dirt. While they would much rather move on from the horrific experiment, there might be a way to actually make it work. Keep the ball out of Osweiler’s hands as much as possible.

Running back Joe Mixon would go a long way in helping that effort. Mixon may not have a Pro Bowl selection to his name but he did rush for back-to-back thousand yard seasons. With Lamar Miller capable of doing the same in 2017, the Texans could play smash-mouth football. That would mean rushing the ball down the throat of the defense and defending like crazy.

In today’s pass happy league, it isn’t likely to work but it’s worth a try. Anything is better than giving the ball to Osweiler an ungodly amount of times.
