The Philadelphia Eagles had no idea what was coming. Quarterback Carson Wentz appeared to be the next big thing. The defense was a thing of beauty and head coach Doug Peterson was the evil genius who put it all together.

Even with Wentz going down due to injury, the Eagles had enough talent to go out and win the Super Bowl with backup QB Nick Foles. Their thought process was simple, if they could take care of business with Foles, then there was no way they couldn’t build a dynasty around Wentz.

Yet, something funny happened. Wentz fell apart. He was asked to do way too much and the litany of injuries on both sides of the ball began piling up for the Eagles. To help take some of the burden off Wentz, the Eagles should’ve originally taken running back Dalvin Cook.

Outside of two shaky seasons to start his career, Cook has been on the money for the Minnesota Vikings. In back-to-back years, Cook has rushed for well over a thousand yards, including a career-high 1,557 yards in only 14 games this past season. He’s also been a touchdown machine, racking up 29 in those two campaigns.

At times, Cook has single handedly taken over games. That’s a luxury that Wentz simply didn’t have. If Philadelphia hitched their wagon to Cook, maybe Wentz wouldn’t have deteriorated and maybe Pederson wouldn’t be on the street looking for a job right now.
