NFL Draft: Re-drafting every first-round pick from 2017 NFL Draft: 17, TE Evan Engram
Originally selected 23rd overall (+6)
The Washington Football team had an agenda on their mind. For a number of years they asked previous quarterback Kirk Cousins to prove that wasn’t a flash in the pan. Time and time again, he showed that he was legit. Still, the team decided to walk away from him after a 7-9 season in 2017.
By all accounts, Cousins did his job, throwing for over 4,000 yards but when we look at his group of pass-catchers, the organization did him no favors. If they had the chance to do it all over again, then tight end Evan Engram would’ve been the right call to give Cousins a bit of support.
Now, admittedly, Engram hasn’t been super productive. With four years under his belt, he hasn’t come close to reaching a thousand yards but still, he’s been productive. In his first year, he was a presence, catching 64 balls for 722 receiving yards and six touchdowns. This past season, he was chosen to his first Pro Bowl. All in all, the kid has been solid since he first entered the league out of Ole Miss.
We’re not saying he would’ve changed life for the Washington Football Team, but he could’ve buffered Cousins numbers and contributed to a winning situation. Even now, their offense lacks any sort of real firepower. Engram would’ve been a perfect addition to a group who’s now depending on the defense to lead them to the promised land.
