NFL Draft: Re-drafting every first-round pick from 2017 NFL Draft: 1, QB Patrick Mahomes

Originally selected 10th overall (+9)

It’s safe to say that the Cleveland Browns will never have quarterback issues again. At least not for the next two decades.

Patrick Mahomes has been ridiculous during his short time in the league. Despite having only four years of experience under his belt, Mahomes has already jumped into the GOAT conversation. While that seems a bit hyperbolic, it actually isn’t. No one has come close to accomplishing what Mahomes has during his first few years.

After sitting back and watching Alex Smith from the sidelines, Mahomes took the Kansas City Chiefs to a whole other level. In his first year as a full-time starter, Mahomes threw for over 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns. Needless to say, he was given the NFL MVP award, named a Pro bowler and made the All-Pro First team as well.

Mahomes numbers weren’t all fluff as he came up just short of reaching the Super Bowl, falling to the present goat, Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game. Mahomes and company would redeem themselves the following year, bringing the Lombardi home to Kansas City for the first time in over 50 years.

If it weren’t for a decimated offensive line, Mahomes appeared to be on his way to taking back-to-back Super Bowls wins. For as great as defensive end Myles Garrett has been, he simply doesn’t come close to what Mahomes brings to the table.
