NFL Draft: Re-drafting every first-round pick from 2017 NFL Draft
NFL Draft: Re-drafting every first-round pick from 2017 NFL Draft: 22, TE O.J. Howard
Originally selected 19th overall (-3)
The Miami Dolphins have actually fielded several solid quarterbacks. The problem, however, is that they switch signal-callers more than they switch underwear. With names such as Jay Cutler, Ryan Tannehill, Ryan Fitzpatrick and now Tua Tagovailoa – the Dolphins have been pretty solid in that position.
What the sunshine franchise needs more than anything is help in terms of pass catchers and playmakers. So with the 22nd pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins should’ve selected tight end, O.J. Howard.
The big bruising pass catcher is the type of physical player the Dolphins need. His numbers throughout his career don’t scream game-changer though. He’s never come close to a thousand yards, never made a Pro Bowl and don’t even ask if he’s ever made an All-Pro team. Still, with the limited opportunities he’s gotten down in Tampa, Howard has made the most of his them. His 70.8 catch percentage in 2018 is the type of security blanket Dolphin quarterbacks could use. His addition may not scream Lombardi trophy but it certainly pushes them on the track to one.
