NFL Draft: Re-drafting every first-round pick from 2017 NFL Draft: 24, QB Taysom Hill

Originally undrafted

No matter how well quarterback Derek Carr plays, it seems as though he’ll always be on the hot seat. Despite being accurate, mobile and by all accounts, a leader – Carr just hasn’t resonated with both the Las Vegas Raiders fan base and the coaching staff.

To put an end to this shotgun wedding, the Raiders can simply try their hand with dual-threat QB Taysom Hill. Unfortunately for the former BYU standout, he’s been forced to sit behind one of the greatest QBs of all time in Drew Brees. But while he’s mostly held the clipboard, he’s been given the chance to run a few plays out of the wildcat, mostly during goal-line situations.

When Hill was given the chance to start this past season when Brees went down for roughly a month, Hill proved he was a capable thrower. Granted, his team was loaded with talent but Hill put together several notable games, including an outing in which he threw for 233 yards on better than 70% passing and chugged the rock for an additional 49 yards and two scores.

While many might consider Carr the overall better player, everything just feels forced in Oakland. It’s time to end the marriage neither side wanted in the first place.
