NFL Draft: Re-drafting every first-round pick from 2017 NFL Draft: 27, S Jabrill Peppers
Originally selected 25th overall (-2)
Strong safeties rarely, if ever, receive the sort of attention that Jabrill Peppers did in college. While playing at the University of Michigan, Peppers lined up everywhere and put up eye-popping numbers. As a strong safety in 2015, Peppers was responsible for 45 tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss.
While those numbers were good in itself, the Michigan coaching staff believed Peppers was good enough to take a few snaps on offense. They were right. Peppers returned the ball on several occasions for 223 yards. In the backfield, Peppers rushed for 72 yards and two touchdowns. He was up to his old Swiss army tricks again the following year. Peppers racked up 72 tackles, 167 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
While he hasn’t exactly been the same offensive weapon in the pros, Peppers has still been very effective. This past season he picked up one interception, 91 combined tackles and 2.5 sacks. When it comes to the Buffalo Bills and their pathetic defense, adding Peppers would’ve gone long way.
Last season, the Bills gave up 23.4 points per game. Not an awful number but with Patrick Mahomes and his explosive out there to deal with, the Bills are going to have to contend with him for a very long time. Adding Peppers is exactly what the doctor called for in this re-draft.
