NFL Draft: Re-drafting every first-round pick from 2017 NFL Draft: 2, QB Deshaun Watson
Originally selected 12th overall (+10)
Under normal circumstances, quarterback Deshaun Watson would take the top spot on this list with little to no hesitation.
The former Clemson Tiger has been terrific since he was taken with the 12th overall pick by the Houston Texans. Outside of a shaky first year where he was in and out of the lineup, Watson has been just about as good as anyone in the league.
In both his second and third year, Watson carried the Texans to back-to-back playoff berths due to his ridiculous play in the regular season. In total, Watson threw for over 8,000 yards in that span to go along with a completion percentage near 70%. Admittedly, he’s flamed out in the early rounds of the playoffs but he’s at least made it that far.
This past season, the Texans were awful record wise finishing the year at 4-12, but Watson had the best year of his career. He threw for 4,823 yards and 33 touchdowns on 70.2 completion percentage. All career highs. It was the first time in his brief career that Watson heard his name mentioned as the best player in the world. If he continues to churn out years like the one he just had, then there’s a good chance he’ll catch fellow quarterback Patrick Mahomes. For now, he sits a safe distance away from the top spot.
