NFL Draft: Re-drafting every first-round pick from 2017 NFL Draft: 5, RB Alvin Kamara

Originally selected 67th overall (+62)

In 2017, running back Alvin Kamara waited until the third round and the 67th overall pick to hear his name called. This time around, he’s coming off the board early.

The draft combine truly doesn’t make any sense. A bunch of NFL scouts and general managers stand around and watch several college players run, jump and throw the ball. They also provide those soon to be NFL players with several tests. Well, what’s the point in playing a college season?

For Kamara, he did everything right. He scored the highest grade on the Wonderlic out of the running back group. He was also a monster during his two years in Tennessee, he compiled nearly 2,000 yards from scrimmage and averaged one score per game.

Despite all that, he fell to the third round to the New Orleans Saints. Well, with four years in the league, Kamara has been selected to four Pro Bowls. He was the 2017 Offensive Rookie of the Year and finds his name near the top of the all-purpose charts every season. He’s yet to put together a campaign in which he totaled less than 1,300 yards from scrimmage. In addition to that, Kamara leads the entire running back field in terms of total yards from scrimmage with 6,164, no easy considering the numerous All-Pros and Pro Bowlers taken in the 2017 draft.

If the NFL is going to continue to have an NFL combine then fine. But at least use it properly. It wasn’t hard to see how great Kamara was going to be but apparently, no one got the memo.
