Buffalo Bills: 3 Best picks to make at No. 30 in 2021 NFL Draft
Buffalo Bills Best Pick No. 3: CB Greg Newsome II, Northwestern
The 2021 NFL Draft class is full of top-tier prospects at the cornerback position. Even with the presence of Pro-Bowl cornerback Tre’Davious White, the Buffalo Bills still ranked 13th in pass defense.
Insert Greg Newsome II, the 6-0, 190-pound defensive back out of Northwestern. Despite only playing 21 games with the Wildcats, Newsome has already drawn comparisons to veteran Darius Slay in terms of his ability to play in both man-to-man and zone coverage.
There is a high likelihood that Buffalo finds Newsome at the 30th pick, as a laundry list of highly-touted prospects is likely to be taken before the former Wildcat. While that sounds like a knock on the defensive back, it is far from it. Newsome has quietly built himself a proven track record of skills that could be easily tuned-up within one or two seasons under pro-level coaching.
Along with Tre’Davious White, the Buffalo Bills secondary is home to lockdown safeties Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer. As a replacement for veteran Josh Norman, Newsome would round out a laded secondary and make Buffalo a nightmare for opposing play-callers.
Even if Newsome isn’t available at pick 30, the Buffalo Bills are likely to find equal talent in prospects like Jaycee Horn and Eric Stokes. Regardless of who it is, the Bills could use the improvement beyond their front seven and they’ll be smart to use their pick on a shutdown corner like Greg Newsome II.
