Dallas Cowboys flood secondary with studs in final 7-round mock draft
By Randy Gurzi
Round 2, Pick 44: Jevon Holland, S, Oregon
As bad as the cornerback play has been in Dallas, the safeties have been even worse. For years, the front office has been betting on late-round draft picks and while Xavier Woods outperformed his sixth-round status, he was never a game-changer.
They hope Donovan Wilson can be, but again, he was a sixth-round pick and is already entering his third season — meaning by the time he develops, he too could be out the door since he will be ready for a new contract and the cap situation in Big D is a little tight.
With all that being said, they need to finally add a safety who can start right away and that’s why we have Jevon Holland joining them at No. 44. And with how blatantly this front office has ignore the position, there’s no doubt the fan base will go nuts at this announcement.
Holland was looking like the best safety in this class but opted out of the 2020 campaign. That allowed Trevon Moehrig to surpass him but Holland is still a difference-maker who had nine picks in his first two seasons. Dallas needs a player like this in a secondary that has been abysmal when it comes to taking the ball away.
Putting Holland on the field with Damontae Kazee, Wilson, and Keanu Neal who will be playing a hybrid safety/linebacker role could accidentally give them a good corps deep in the secondary.
