Dallas Cowboys flood secondary with studs in final 7-round mock draft

Round 6, Pick 227: Chris Evans, RB, Michigan
I promise, if Chris Evans is picked by America’s Team, there will be no Captain America jokes made by anyone.
Okay, so that’s not a great promise to make but the Cowboys picking up the Michigan running back with their second pick in the sixth round could make a lot of sense. Right now, they have Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard who are set as the No. 1 and No. 2 backs, and even Rico Dowdle has a lot to like as their third back.
Having said that, Elliott was trending in the wrong direction last season and Pollard wasn’t as impressive when he did start as most of us hoped for. That being said, they can use someone who can push them but they don’t want to spend a premium pick.
Evans won’t cost them a high pick since he’s an unknown commodity. After running for 1,722 yards and 14 touchdowns in his first three seasons, Evans was suspended for 2019 due to academic ineligibility. He then played in just six games in 2020 and had only 16 carries for 73 yards.
He checks off a lot of boxes when it comes to athleticism and physicality but he’s a project player for sure. Should that gamble pay off, this could be a solid pick this late in the draft.
Round 7, Pick 238: Feleipe Franks, QB, Arkansas
Entering the 2021 NFL Draft, the Cowboys have Garrett Gilbert, Cooper Rush, and Ben DiNucci behind Dak Prescott. Out of those three, Gilbert is the one who they can trust the most but he still has just 44 career passes — whereas DiNucci has 43 and Rush has three. There’s also just one touchdown pass between all three, which was the one Gilbert threw last season when he started while Andy Dalton was out with COVID.
The lack of depth at quarterback could lead to the Cowboys targeting a veteran after the draft — and it could also mean they will pick someone as well.
That won’t come via an early selection but a seventh-round pick for someone such as Feleipe Franks from Arkansas. Franks is an impressive 6-6 and 228 pounds and has 6,700 yards passing with a 55-to-21 touchdown-to-interception ratio while playing for both Arkansas and Florida.
He might not be anything more than a practice squad candidate but it’s worth a shot this late on a player with some upside.
