NFL Draft: 30 worst No. 1 overall picks in league history
30 worst No. 1 overall picks in NFL Draft history: 30. QB, Carson Palmer
Stats:
- 46.247 passing yards
- 294 touchdowns
- 62.5 completion percentage
Compared to the rest of this list, quarterback Carson Palmer is essentially a Hall of Famer. His college career at USC was a terrific one. With back-to-back years throwing for nearly 3,000 yards, Palmer put it all together in his senior season. The future number one overall pick by the Cincinnati Bengals took home the Heisman Trophy after throwing for 3,942 yards, 33 touchdowns and only 10 interceptions.
Palmer put together several high-quality seasons at the next level. On nine separate occasions, Palmer threw for over 3,000 yards. Six different times Palmer threw for over 4,000 yards. During his near decade and a half long career, Palmer was a three-time Pro Bowler and his 46,247 passing yards currently rank 14th all-time. Also, his 294 passing touchdowns place just inside the top 15 coming in at number 13.
The overall numbers for Palmer were stellar but it was his lack of team success that gave him a slot on this list. Over the course of his career, Palmer lost nearly as much as he won as his record stands at 92-88-1. In addition to that, Palmer only reached the postseason on three occasions and threw more interceptions (7) than touchdowns (5).
