30 worst No. 1 overall picks in NFL Draft history: 12. QB, Sam Bradford
Stats:
- 19,449 passing yards
- 103 touchdowns
- 61 interceptions
Sam Bradford had superstar written all over him. During his time at the University of Oklahoma, all opposing defenses could do was simply shrug their shoulders and throw their hands into the air as Bradford carved them up every chance he got.
With a great season in 2007, Bradford turned in an all-timer in 2008. On the year Bradford threw for 4,721 yards to go along with 50 touchdowns and just eight interceptions. Needless to say, the Heisman trophy had his name engraved into it. The St. Louis Rams made Bradford the number one overall pick in 2010 and were happy with the results. At least, early on.
Bradford easily took home the Offensive Rookie of the Year award after throwing for over 3,500 yards and 18 touchdowns. The expectations went through the roof for Bradford in year two but injuries and inconsistent play kicked the second-year signal-caller off his high horse. Bradford managed to have a relatively injury-free season the following year but team success didn’t follow. With back-to-back seasons that were truncated due to knee injuries, the Rams handed Bradford his walking papers as he moved on to the Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings and Arizona Cardinals.
At times, Bradford would flash his number one overall pick potential but far too often was he sitting on the sidelines nursing another injury. More than anything, Bradford’s brittleness lands him a spot on this list as opposed to his actual talent.
