The name John Matuszak might ring a few bells to people. Although, it isn’t for what he did on the football field.

Matuszak may have been the number one overall pick in the 1973 NFL Draft but he was much more known for his roles in movies such as Caveman, The Ice Pirates, One Man Force and One Crazy Summer – amongst others. With the amount of acting Matuszak did over the course of his career, it’s no wonder he underperformed on the football field.

During the 1970s, the Houston Oilers believed the defensive end would be a star for the next decade-plus on the gridiron, not the television screen. With that said, nothing panned out for him. Matuszak admitted that he drank heavily during the season and abused drugs. He was never selected to a Pro Bowl during his time in the league, nor did he make an All-Pro squad. He did, however, collect two Super Bowl rings as a member of the Oakland Raiders. Granted, he didn’t exactly earn them with stellar play and more so just wound up in a good situation but still, a ring is a ring.
