Final 2021 NFL Mock Draft: Bears replenish defense with No. 20

20. Chicago Bears: Greg Newsome II, CB, Northwestern

Unless you consider signing Andy Dalton something to be excited about, the Chicago Bears have done nothing but miss out on quarterbacks this offseason. Matthew Stafford, Carson Wentz and maybe even Russell Wilson were all available this offseason and the Bears came away with none of them.

That trend continues in this mock draft with the Bears failing to secure a trade partner to move up for one of the slipping quarterbacks in Fields and Lance. They could reach substantially for someone like Davis Mills here but, man, I can’t predict that type of pain for the good people of Chicago. Thus, we go with a more conservative pick here.

Cutting Kyle Fuller this offseason was quite an unpopular move for the Bears but, on a baseline level, it also created a substantial need at cornerback that must be addressed. Greg Newsome II is someone they could take in the first round to accomplish that.

Newsome checks the boxes of a versatile coverage corner, though instances of him in press-man are a bit limited. Still, his profile and tape show a player who can start from Day 1 in the Bears offense and keep their one decisive strength, the defense, as a calling card.

Who I Would Pick: Greg Newsome II
