Dallas Cowboys: 5 Sleepers to target in 2021 NFL Draft
By Randy Gurzi
1. Dayo Odeyingbo, EDGE, Vanderbilt
Another position where the Dallas Cowboys could look to add depth during the 2021 NFL Draft is at defensive end. With Aldon Smith leaving in free agency, they’re now looking to start Randy Gregory at right end with DeMarcus Lawrence still manning the left side.
Behind them, they have Dorrance Armstrong, Tarrel Basham, and Bradlee Anae. None of those options are bad by any means but there’s no one who looks like a star in the making. For that reason, they could try and find a player to groom and one potential fit is Dayo Odeyingbo out of Vanderbilt.
Listed at 6-foot-6 and 265-pounds, Odeyingbo is an impressive-looking prospect. His size has also allowed him to move all over the line for the Commodores, even playing the three-technique and nose tackle at times.
Clearly, he won’t be playing the nose at the next level but he has enough size to move inside on third downs and give them another pass rusher.
The one thing to keep in mind with Odeyingbo, however, is that he’s very raw. He has been able to win in the collegiate world with his pure size and athleticism and had his best season in 2020. As a senior, he recorded 32 tackles (eight for a loss) and 5.5 sacks in just eight games.
Should he land in Dallas, it would give them a player who could get on the field in spurts but if he’s able to learn behind someone such as Tank Lawrence, he could eventually turn into a solid starter.
