Najee Harris 2021 NFL Draft fits: 5 Best landing spots
By Tadhg Flynn
1. Pittsburgh Steelers – No. 24 pick in 2021 NFL Draft
The Pittsburgh Steelers had an 11-game winning streak in the 2020 season and I can comfortably say they are the worst team I have ever seen accomplish a feat of that manner. 7-of-11 wins over that span were by one score or less. They can’t bet on luck breaking that way again. Ben Roethlisberger looks old, slow and at least four years past his prime — and this has bled through into the offense’s execution as a whole.
The receiving corps has the talent to succeed, especially after re-signing JuJu Smith-Schuster for the upcoming year. But they have to deal with spotty throwing from the quarterback position and inaccurate releases affecting their route running.
The best thing the team could have done would have been to release Big Ben and figure out how to move forward with new blood. Yet, Roethlisberger will stay with the team through the 2021 season. The organization have to figure out how to win in the upcoming season without relying on luck as much as they did. 7 of their 11 wins were by one score or less. A lot of these tight games may not go their way again.
A big reason they couldn’t excel as a receiving corps was the lack of a ground game for Pittsburgh through the year. Every time the team struggled on downs, opposing defenses knew they would revert to the pass.
The Steelers had the lowest total rushing yards in the NFL last year with only 1,351 yards. They couldn’t engineer gaps in defensive lines and were left embarrassed in their attempts to put together long drives through the year against good teams.
Harris is a perfect fit coming into this team, armed with an excellent head coach in Mike Tomlin and a great organization with prestige and a solid team infrastructure. The Alabama product represents chance to rejuvenate the running game of an expectant franchise. With no comparable running backs matching the possible production of Harris on the roster, he could dominate.
