NFL Draft: Redrafting the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft 15. Derrick Henry
Originally selected 45th overall (+30)
In 2016, the Cleveland Browns were in a stage of their rebuild where they could do nothing right. In the 32 games following this draft, they would secure only a single win. That said, their pick of Corey Coleman went to waste, as he was never that great and only stuck with the team for a couple of seasons.
They’ll get another shot to improve their offense, but this time, they won’t look for a wide receiver in a draft that didn’t have much pass-catching talent. Instead, they’ll look to a deep class of running backs to make improvements.
More specifically, they’ll get Derrick Henry, who has turned out to be arguably the best skill-position player in this draft. The 2020 season marked his second consecutive year leading the NFL in rushing yards and touchdowns.
The Browns would likely still lose 31 games in two years, but at least they’ll have an exciting running back to watch during those dark days. Plus, Henry will pay off down the road, as he didn’t reach his peak in the NFL until a half-decade after being drafted.
