NFL Draft: Redrafting the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft 18. Leonard Floyd

Originally selected 9th overall (-9)

The Indianapolis Colts won’t be upset with their original draft pick in Ryan Kelly, who turned out to be one of the best players from the 2016 NFL Draft. Unfortunately for them, he has been off the board for a while in this redraft.

Instead, the Colts will patch up another weak spot on their roster by drafting Leonard Floyd, who originally went to the Chicago Bears. The Windy City wasn’t a great fit for him, but he had a breakout season in his first year with the Rams.

In 2020, Floyd recorded career-highs with 10.5 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, and 55 tackles overall. He hasn’t seen a Pro Bowl appearance or been selected to an All-Pro team yet, but don’t be surprised if he does in the future. It took him a while to settle in, but he can be an elite defender in this league.

One of the Colts’ biggest needs in this draft was an edge rusher or an outside linebacker, so Floyd will be able to fill that gap perfectly. Hopefully, he’ll fit in with the Indianapolis Colts as well as their original first-round pick did from 2016.
