WR Kadarius Toney, No. 21, New York Giants

I’m sorry. Do the New York Giants not already have enough talent at wide receiver? Is a combination of Kenny Golladay, Sterling Shepard, Darius Slayton and John Ross not enough? Apparently, they needed to upgrade that position with a first-round pick…

Even if Toney ends up being a quality NFL talent, this was a dumb selection. The Giants have plenty of other areas to address, and there’s no way Toney was the best player available at this point in the draft. But for some reason, they felt it necessary to add another wide receiver to an already loaded position.

What’s going to happen is Toney will get buried on the depth chart, not receiving the reps he deserves as a result. Eventually, he’ll get frustrated and force his way out of the Big Apple, resulting in the Giants getting far less out of their investment than they put in.

Again, this is nothing against Toney. He has the potential to be a dynamic playmaker in the NFL with his speed and explosiveness, but the G-Men should have gone in a different direction here. Sooner rather than later, they’ll be wishing they did exactly that with the No. 21 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
